Paul A. Bartlett, Ph.D.

Dr. Bartlett was a co-founder of Pharmacopeia. He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, where he began his academic career in 1973. Dr. Bartlett supervised more than 120 Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows and lead a research program encompassing topics in organic synthesis, bioorganic chemistry, and molecular modeling that are relevant to drug discovery and other fields. He has consulted extensively for the pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and biotech industries, and organized a number of symposia in drug discovery. Dr. Bartlett received his A.B. and A.M. degrees from Harvard University and his Ph.D. degree from Stanford University, and pursued postdoctoral studies at the University of California, San Diego. He has held fellowships from the NSF, the NIH, and the Alfred P. Sloan and Alexander von Humboldt Foundations, and he has been honored with the Stuart Pharmaceuticals Award, an NIH MERIT award, the Humboldt Senior Scientist Award, the Cope Scholar Award, and the Berkeley Citation. He is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
